Aaron Mclean I’ve been skiing since age six and loved it straight away! Originally I learnt on a dry slope with the local race team and since leaving school I have been lucky enough to spend every winter teaching in the mountains. I love all disciplines of skiing and for me, being able to explore such a beautiful mountain range as the Swiss alps on skis – there is no better feeling! Throughout the summer months I instruct various other outdoor pursuits and enjoy mountain biking, white water paddling and climbing. All in all so long as it’s outside and there’s fun people involved – life is sweet! |
Amy Marwick Since my first season working in Courchevel in France, where I learnt to ski as a child, I've been hooked on skiing! I've spent my winters between France, Austria, Switzerland and even Scotland (an experience everyone needs to give a try). I love to ski in the bumps and off the piste in waist deep powder- so lets hope we get lots of snow this winter :) The mountains around Saas Fee are some of the most dramatic I've ever skied amongst; for me, a great day out there would involve touring up and finding some fresh snow to ski with friends... and a drink at the bottom to finish! |
Ben Shubrook I first went skiing with my school when I was 16 years old and immediately decided it is what I wanted to do with my life, and for the last 12 years that is exactly what I have been doing! It has taken me to many different places and introduced me to some incredible people, I have taught/coached in Switzerland, France, Italy, America and New Zealand. I have trained through the British, New Zealand and American Instructor systems, so feel I have a pretty good understanding of ski teaching! I have finally put down roots here in Saas Fee, where I live the majority of the year now. |

Cat Turnbull Having started skiing while I was at school most of my early experiences were with friends on the dry slopes and rocky resorts of Scotland! I knew that I loved the sport but it wasn’t until my GAP ‘year’ after University when I spent a season in Courchevel that I realised it was my passion, I am now on my fifth GAP year all spent training and teaching in the French and Swiss Alps. I’m never happier than when I have a pair of skis attached to my feet but generally love anything active/outdoors/involving good people...... see you on the hill!! |
Chris Slade I first went skiing when I was 5 years old on a dry ski slope but got the taste for the snow when skiing in France as a kid. After a small stint of traveling at the age of 19, I decided to take my first steps towards becoming a Ski Teacher and now ten winters later I find myself lucky enough to be based in Saas-Fee. In the summer months I move down the mountains to enjoy the warmer weather, Lakes and put in a few skydives if I'm lucky. Pure Switzerland. |
Colin Dalziel Growing up in Scotland I was lucky enough to have mountains only a short drive away. I started snowboarding on a school trip, after that most winter weekends were spent snowboarding, with my dad driving me up and down. As soon as I left school I passed my first instructor qualifications. I now live a full year of winter working between hemispheres, working seasons in Scotland, Canada, Italy, New Zealand and now Switzerland.I love my job, meeting new people, getting them stoked on riding for the first time or helping take their riding to a new level. Being able to follow winter around the world and work on some of the best mountains is pretty awesome too. |

Katherine Ashby I love the snowy mountains and the lifestyle it creates. I first put on a pair of skis in the family resort of La Plagne, France, at the young age of 5. From that day on I knew it was something I had to get more involved with. Since choosing to head down the instructor path I have found myself in various resorts in Europe such as Morzine, Verbier and Hintertux where I did my training, as well as Pila and Zermatt where I have taught. I’m a skier at heart but love to jump on a board to push my skills and try out new things. In my spare time you’ll find me having a giggle with a bunch of mates over a big pot of tea!! |
Lesley Nicholson Originally from the North Shore in New Zealand I moved to Switzerland 3 years ago after working for NZSki in Queenstown for 3 winters and falling in love with the snowsports industry. I grew up in a family of avid skiers and starting skiing at 4yrs old and then switched to snowboarding when I was 15yrs old but I still try to ski every once in awhile. Most of the time you’ll find me behind the desk in our office but when I do manage to escape work you will either find me out with our dog Oscar or trying to improve my riding or photography skills. |
Max Brown I started skiing when I was 4 years old and have been lucky enough to ski most years since then. My parents moved to Saas Fee 5 years ago and I have spent all holidays summer and winter skiing and touring in my back garden. I love all aspects of the mountains including mountaineering, ski touring, free ride and more recently freestyle as Saas Fee has the largest summer European ski park. I’m currently studying design at Loughborough University but head out to the mountains any chance I can get. |

Patrick Kenel Having grown up in Switzerland, I have been skiing and riding for over 20 years. I spent several seasons in New Zealand teaching and training Snowboard instructors. I have a love of music and when I'm not riding you'll find me DJ'ing. |
Romain Bellon I grew up in the Swiss Alps skiing from a very early age. As well as teaching in Switzerland I have also taught in New Zealand and Argentina. I love big mountain skiing and am currently focusing on competing in Freeride competitions. When I'm not on my alpine ski's you'll find me out telemarking. |
Oscar the Pug Oscar is Optimum's office dog, you'll find him keeping Lesley company in the office or most likely having a wee snooze in his bed behind the desk. He loves running in the snow on Stafelwald, chewing toys and saying hello to anyone. So feel free to come and visit him in the office he loves a pat. |
